Collection Tin Chauffeur

Role

If you love being out and about in your local community and have a few hours to spare, then we have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Across the Wolverhampton area, we have lots of kind businesses who host one of our charity collection tins. These are tins that you usually see on the counters in shops, cafes, or pubs where their customers can donate loose change to make a difference to the lives of those at The Haven. You know that saying, “look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves,” well it’s really true and our tins need to be changed on a regular basis so we can start to put the community’s generosity to good use through our vital services. This is why we need your support. We are looking for volunteers to visit some of our lovely tin hosts and thank them for their support. You would then be bringing away their collection tin, leaving them with a new one so they can continue collect more pennies and pounds to really forge change in our community. Does this sound up your street? Do you have your own car? Could you give your time to be a Collection Tin Chauffeur and make a difference to the lives of women and children vulnerable to domestic abuse and homelessness? If the answer is YES to all of these questions and you are ready to embark on a community collection tin mission with us, then keep reading for the benefits and the important stuff.

What are some of the benefits?

A Chance to Make a Difference: You’re not just changing collection tins; you’re helping to change lives by ensuring life-saving services can continue at The Haven.

Boost Your CV: Gain a whole range of valuable hands-on experience with a well-established charity to enhance your CV and stand out from the crowd to future employers.

Earn Glowing References: You will receive a personalised reference highlighting your dedication and skills learnt at The Haven, and of course regular thank you letters and updates will be sent along the way too, so you know just how much of a difference you’re making.

Guided Support at Your Fingertips: Access expert charity guidance and mentorship from The Haven team throughout your volunteering journey. If a career in fundraising is something you’re interested in, this is a great first step!

Be a part of our Haven Team: Being a volunteer at The Haven is more than giving your time, you really do become part of our Haven family, where volunteers and staff members all work together to make a positive difference to the lives of women and children vulnerable to domestic abuse and homelessness. Throughout your time spent with us, you will meet many of our friendly team and learn more about how your support is helping those we support to take the brave steps to a life free from abuse.

Boost your happiness – giving your time through volunteering is both a meaningful way to give back to your community whilst also boosting your mood and supporting your own mental health. By spending time with others in an environment that is outside of our home can do us the world of good. Being out and about meeting people in the community and thanking them for their support really can boost your mood.

It’s your time to give when you can – we understand your time is precious; you might be an avid 9-5’er and are looking to give something back in your spare time, perhaps you’re retired and want to give some of your time in a meaningful way or maybe you are looking to get back into work and want to build up some useful skills? We would be happy to have a chat with you around the time you can give. There is no set requirement of time, we can be flexible with your volunteering days to make it works for us both.

What activities will I be involved in?

  • Collection Tin Chauffeur: You will be driving around the community and visiting some of our lovely collection tin hosts across a variety of businesses in the Wolverhampton area. Bringing away with you their collection tin and leaving them with a replacement, so they can continue to help raise vital funds and awareness. Don’t worry, we will give you a route and all the directions / parking options you will need.
  • Two small words: We will be asking you to say thank you to our fabulous hosts when you change their tins and ensure they know they are making a difference to the lives of those at The Haven.
  • Collection Tin Protector: We will then ask you to safely bring those tins that are filled with people’s kindness and generosity to Haven HQ where we can turn the pennies into services that will help those vulnerable to domestic abuse and homelessness

What skills and abilities will I need to have?

  • Beep Beep!: You will need to hold a full, clean driver’s license and have access to your own vehicle.
  • Enjoy speaking to others: at our tin locations you will need to speak to the hosts, to explain why you are there and to thank them for their incredible support so confidence is key.
  • Keeping our tins safe: to keep our collection tins safe, they are attached to a chain. You will need to undo the chain and reattach it to a new tin, don’t worry its as easy as putting a new keyring on to a set of keys.
  • Navigation: although not essential, it would be good to have a good sense of direction and/or know the Wolverhampton area well, but don’t worry we have different route options across Wolverhampton and can help you plan the most effective route. If you have a sat nav too on your phone or in your car this may also come in handy!

Extra, Extra, Read all about it…

Location

Your volunteering will take place out and about in Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas.

Hours and Training

We know everyone’s time is precious and so we would be happy to have a chat with you about the time you can give. Ideally for this role we would be looking for someone to support once a quarter, for around 2-4 hours but this isn’t set in stone, it can be more, it can be less! Just let us know what you can do and we can go from there.

Training and support will be given throughout your volunteering with us. You will meet some of the fundraising team and we will go through a full overview of the process as we start your journey at The Haven. Once you become a volunteer, there are also other great opportunities for you to learn more about our cause and why we do what we do. Being a volunteer would give you the opportunity to attend a whole range of Haven training courses that cover different specialisms and areas of domestic abuse giving you the chance to understand more about the impact of abuse and also how your support as a volunteer can make a difference at The Haven.

Expenses

We offer reimbursement of mileage expenses, just speak to the Senior Fundraiser to find out more.

The important stuff

Due to the nature of what we do, we do ask that anyone who would like to volunteer with us receives a DBS check. Under the Care Standards Act 2000, all roles are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Don’t worry, if you are happy to give your time and support us on an ongoing basis, we will cover the cost of this and send you everything you need to start the DBS check. We will have a few other forms and bit and pieces you will need to fill in so we can keep you safe and well-informed during your time with us.

Meet the team

Hello I’m Hayley! I am the Senior Fundraiser at The Haven, and I will be your main contact whilst you are volunteering with us. I have been at The Haven for 6 years and I still love it as much as my first day. Interesting fact about me…last year I jumped 14,000 feet out of a plane in support of The Haven!

I look forward to meeting you and working to make a difference in our community together.
