Volunteers Needed

 

We are looking for Criminal Justice Service Volunteers to support women and children who are victims of domestic abuse, through the Criminal Justice and Civil Court Proceedings process.

We are looking for volunteers to join our team.

What will I be doing?

  • Manage a caseload with support from the Criminal Justice Service Lead
  • Provide emotional support and practice advice to victims of domestic abuse who are progressing a case through the court system
  • Enable victims to access all available support, utilising referral pathways in-house and to other organisations
  • Explain the court process for criminal and / or civil proceedings
  • Update digital system with case notes
  • Attend court to support victims ensuring they are aware of agencies present on the day
  • Arrange and attend pre-trial visits with victims
  • Empower victims to have a voice
  • Engage with Crown Prosecution Service, Witness Care Unit, Police Officers, Court Staff, Citizens Advice Witness Service as/when required
  • Work in tandem with The Haven Wolverhampton volunteer and staff colleagues
  • Working in an understanding environment where sensitivity and empathy are key to supporting victims of domestic abuse
  • Advocate and comply with The Haven Wolverhampton Safeguarding Policy and procedure
  • Adhere to The Haven Wolverhampton Policies and Procedures relevant to your role
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, volunteer team meetings, 1-2-1

What skills do I need?

  • Understanding of the impact that domestic abuse has on women and children
  • Be empathetic, compassionate and sincere in your approach
  • Possess good communication skills with people of all levels on the telephone, face to face and via email
  • Be able to prioritise your workload
  • Can work on your own initiative and within a team
  • Have excellent customer service skills
  • Be able to accurately record specific and sensitive information
  • Have attention to detail when inputting information onto digital case files
  • Be an active listener
  • Identify support needs and proactively signpost/ make referrals
  • Safeguarding awareness
