West Midlands Specialist Domestic Abuse Consortium Warns: Women and Girls Forgotten in Government Spending Review

West Midlands Specialist Domestic Abuse Consortium, on behalf of Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid, Black Country Women’s Aid, Coventry Haven Women’s Aid and The Haven Wolverhampton, is disturbed following this week’s government spending review.

Our doors must and will remain open, yet in the review you will find no mention of violence against women and girls, despite tens of thousands presenting each year to our specialist services.  You will find no reference to the significant funding gaps already faced by the services expected to protect them and deliver on the government’s ambitious commitment to halve VAWG in the next decade. You will, in fact, find barely any reference to women and girls at all.

You will instead find plentiful long-term investment in transport, infrastructure and housing.  We welcome this but ask the government, what about women and children, now?
