Hours of work: Minimum 4 hours per month
Role Description
The Haven Wolverhampton is a Women’s Aid organisation and the city’s leading provider of domestic abuse and sexual violence support services for women and children. Everything we do is rooted in one purpose: we support victim-survivors to be seen, heard and safe.
Violence Against Women and Girls is a global crisis. Nearly one in three women will experience partner or sexual violence in their lifetime. In England and Wales alone, 2.2 million women experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2025, and here in the West Midlands, more than 6,800 children were affected by domestic abuse between 2022 and 2024. Racially-aggravated gendered violence is also rising at an alarming rate – making commitment to this cause and strong leadership in this sector more important than ever.
We are seeking a volunteer Treasurer Trustee to join our Board and play a pivotal role in safeguarding the future of our organisation.
As Treasurer Trustee, you will help govern, guide and inspire The Haven Wolverhampton. You will provide strategic financial oversight and assurance to the Board, helping to ensure the charity is solvent, well-governed, financially resilient, and delivering public benefit in line with Charity Commission guidance.
Working closely with fellow Trustees, staff and external auditors, you will help the Board make informed decisions to sustain our live-saving services and ensure that women and children affected by abuse can go on to thrive.
Your role will include:
- Providing strategic financial insight and constructive challenge to the Board
- Supporting oversight of budgeting, financial planning and long-term sustainability
- Reviewing financial performance, management accounts, annual accounts and statutory returns
- Monitoring financial risks, controls and mitigations
- Considering the financial implications of strategic and business decisions
- Supporting robust financial governance in line with agreed Scheme of Delegation
- Liaising with finance staff and external auditors
- Chairing (or play a leading role in) the Finance Sub-Committee, ensuring it reports clearly to the Board
Amongst all of that, you’ll be championing our mission to end violence against women and girls, while passionately advocating for our organisation and those we support at every opportunity!
We’re looking for someone with financial experience, gained either professionally or through voluntary roles (for example, as a Treasurer or finance lead on another Board). You’ll be confident in your ability to interpret financial information and provide assurance to fellow Trustees, as well as in offering supportive challenge and independent judgement. The Trustee Treasurer will be committed to strong governance, compliance, and risk management, with the ability to work collaboratively with other Board members.
The Treasurer Trustee must be able to commit to 4 voluntary hours per month.
We are committed to diversifying our Board with people from a wide range of backgrounds, including, but not limited to:
- Those with lived experience or professional experience of domestic abuse – to understand the challenges faced by those we support
- People from racially marginalised communities (often minoritised through systemic inequality) to represent the region’s diverse communities as well as the women and children we support
- Applicants aged 18 and over (no age limit – in fact, we need more younger voices)
Experience in the domestic abuse sector is welcome, but not essential.
If you want to use your financial skills, give back to your community, and protect vital services, this is the role for you.
