The Haven Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton’s leading provider of domestic abuse support services for women and children, has appointed its new CEO, Laura Rogers, the ex-West Midlands Police MARAC (multi-agency risk assessment conference) Lead.
Laura Rogers joins from West Midlands Police, having led the regional response to high-risk domestic abuse cases across the West Midlands since 2019. She brings her vast expertise of how services and partners should respond to domestic abuse and safeguarding in the local community, and an understanding of the challenges the domestic abuse sector faces.
The announcement comes as The Haven Wolverhampton has been awarded the Women’s Aid National Quality Standard 2024-27 accreditation, an endorsement that demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to providing excellent services to women and children.
Stepping into her first CEO role, Laura has rich experience of the sector and spent several years with Black Country Women’s Aid as the MARAC Lead for Dudley. Laura’s leadership experience and network will further strengthen The Haven’s position in the community.
Laura Rogers, CEO at The Haven Wolverhampton, said:
“I’ve worked closely with The Haven for many years now and having been away from non-profit during my time in policing, joining The Haven gives me a real sense of ‘coming home’. Working with my new team, I’ll use my connections in Wolverhampton and beyond to drive meaningful action and change for the women and children affected by the trauma of abuse. Success comes only with collaboration, and this is a key thread in how I work and the way The Haven will operate under my leadership. I am also thrilled The Haven has been officially recognised as a Women’s Aid Federation of England accredited organisation – a testament to the team’s tireless commitment to making a positive impact, making now an incredibly exciting time to be joining them.
“I am excited for the journey ahead and what my leadership will bring to The Haven. We have an important role to play in the safety and wellbeing of women and children, and we will amplify their voices at every opportunity so that they are heard and they have futures filled with possibility and positivity.”
The Haven Wolverhampton has provided services in the city to women and children affected by domestic abuse and homelessness for 52 years. Last year it supported more than 1,650 women and children in its safe accommodation and the community, and responded to more than 8,500 helpline calls, WhatsApp, and Live Chat messages.
It is estimated that domestic abuse affects 1.4m women in England and Wales every year* and one in three women will experience domestic abuse or sexual violence at some point during their lifetime.** There were also nearly 11,000 incidents of domestic abuse reported to the police, in Wolverhampton, between April 2022 and March 2023.***
