Help shape a safer future for women and children in Wolverhampton
Hours of work: Minimum 4 hours per month
Role Description
The Haven Wolverhampton is a Women’s Aid organisation and the city’s leading provider of domestic abuse and sexual violence support services for women and children. Everything we do is rooted in one purpose: we support victim-survivors to be seen, heard and safe.
Violence Against Women and Girls is a global crisis. Nearly one in three women will experience partner or sexual violence in their lifetime. In England and Wales alone, 2.2 million women experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2025, and here in the West Midlands, more than 6,800 children were affected by domestic abuse between 2022 and 2024. Racially-aggravated gendered violence is also rising at an alarming rate – making commitment to this cause and strong leadership in this sector more important than ever.
We are looking for new volunteer Trustees to join our Board – people who want to use their skills, experience and voice to make a real difference in our community.
As a Trustee, you will help govern, guide and inspire our organisation. You’ll play a key role in shaping our strategic direction, ensuring strong financial and legal oversight, and championing our mission to end violence against women and girls. Most importantly, you’ll be helping us to empower women and children who need safety and support on their recovery from trauma.
We are committed to diversifying our Board and are particularly hoping to see applications from people from a wide range of backgrounds, including, but not limited to:
- Those with lived experience or professional experience of domestic abuse – to understand the challenges faced by those we support
- People from racially marginalised communities (often minoritised through systemic inequality) to represent the region’s diverse communities as well as the women and children we support
- People with additional needs, including those with physical and learning disabilities, neurodivergence, or long-term health conditions
- Applicants aged 18 and over (no age limit – in fact, we need more younger voices)
Experience in the domestic abuse or safeguarding sector is beneficial, but is absolutely not essential, with a range of personal and professional experience across all sectors welcomed.
Trustees are asked to commit four voluntary hours per month and to act as passionate advocates for The Haven and the women and children we support at every opportunity.
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, influence positive change and support us in ensuring women and children in Wolverhampton are seen, heard and safe, we would love to hear from you.
