Walking the extra mile for charity

Parvinder Singh Rakhra and his sons Joshan and Aran spent a day walking from their home in Wolverhampton to outside Birmingham Town Hall at Victoria Square to raise funds for the Haven Refuge.

The 36-year-old said he and his 10 and 11-year-old sons had been looking for a way to give back at Christmas and said he chose to support the Haven after being told about them by friends.

He said: “We wanted to buy gifts for people who wouldn’t get one at Christmas and my friends told me about the Haven’s Christmas appeal.

“I got in touch and asked about buying gifts for the children they help and although they said they can’t accept gifts because of Covid, they were doing the appeal to raise funds.
