Domestic Abuse: Modern Slavery

Overview: This is a training designed to help attendees gain knowledge about the realities and prevalence of Modern Slavery. With the definition of modern slavery, identifying types of modern slavery including county lines, behaviours and indicators that identify a person may be subjected to modern slavery or trafficked, explore why people are exploited, the three components needed for human trafficking and how to recognise and act upon situations, the barriers a person faces in disclosing modern slavery, how people are recruited, the national referral mechanism (NRM), MS1 form and your duty to report, who are first responders, real life case studies and sourcing the appropriate support available. 

At the end of the training participants will be able to:

  • Identify what is Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.
  • Recognise the signs that indicate a person may be subjected to Modern Slavery
  • Understand how to respond to a person who is subjected to Modern Slavery to protect their safety
  • Identify the current situation in the UK and be aware of the changes to the law.
  • Understand the obligations placed upon organisations and individuals.
  • Identify what to do, who to tell and what to record.

This training is aimed at any professional whose work brings them into contact with victims and perpetrators of controlling and coercive behaviour from the voluntary, statutory, and private sectors e.g., Specialist Domestic Abuse agencies, Refuge staff, Social Care, Housing Officers, Education, Police, Health and Social Care Providers, Academic Support, Criminal Justice Services, Family Justice Services, Private Fostering.
