Run, Walk, or Cycle 104 Miles in June

The 104 Challenge is back for 2022 and we hope you are ready for the challenge! We need you to run, walk, or cycle 104 miles during the month of June. Whether you’re an avid runner, enjoy a stroll with the dog or want to increase your daily steps, this challenge is for you.

This is your challenge, your way! So you can take it on as a solo mission, get together with friends or even get your work colleagues involved to create some healthy competition. Achieve 104 miles individually or achieve 104 miles together as a team – the choice is yours.

Bike for Hire

The year also sees the return of The Haven’s static bike for hire. If you are a business and would like to hire our bike for you and your colleagues to clock up your 104 miles in the workplace then just email us at give@havenrefuge.org.uk to arrange to book our bike.

Two women are killed every week

Why 104 Miles?

Sadly, on average, 2 women are killed every week in the UK at the hands of a current or former partner. That is 104 women every year. We need your help to raise vital funds to enable us to continue to reach out and support those living in dangerous and life-threatening situations.

Helpful Tip

There is some guidance in the information pack around setting up your fundraising page but when setting up your page, if you are taking on the challenge as a team, give your page a team name, for example our name would be ‘Team Haven’.

Benefits of the 104 challenge  

Not only will you be doing something incredible for those at The Haven by taking on the 104 Challenge, but it’s proven that exercise can support your physical and mental health.

Reduce risk of illness:

Did you know that exercise can reduce your risk of major illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer by up to 50%?

Mental health:

It is also proven to boost your mental health by improving self-esteem, it can put you in a better mood, give you more energy, and can help with anxiety and depression.

General wellbeing:

Exercise is a proactive way to release pent-up tension, reduce feelings of worry and release some good hormones to turn that frown upside down – a little exercise could help us all with the daily stress and strains of life.

Just taking a daily stroll, cycle or jog could improve or enhance your mental health.  

By taking on the 104 Challenge on your own or as part of a team, you will not only be taking steps (no pun intended) towards a healthier and happier you, but you will also be helping to support women and children who are vulnerable to domestic abuse and homelessness.

our board of trustees took on the 104 challenge by passing the baton as a team. a for a team of four, it would mean 26 miles per person, per week.

cycling solo

Harvey at age 7 has been our youngest 104 challenger. Harvey cycled an incredible 137 miles and raised over £1,000!

ON THE fun RUN

Sarah took on the solo challenge in 2020 during the hardest of times in the pandemic but smashed her 104 mile target to help the women and children at The Haven!
