Pay: £24,000 (pro-rata) (Living Wage Employer)
Hours of work: Part-Time (18 hours per week) Term Time only, 1 year maternity cover (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9AM – 3PM)

Job Purpose
To lead the EmpowHER project delivering a programme of sessions to girls and young women in schools, grounded in the principles of gender equality, taking a positive approach to supporting young women to recognise, understand and be confident to assert their rights, and to think critically about female gender-norms and violence against women and girls.

Role Description

  • You will deliver the Haven Wolverhampton’s training offer (internal & external) including the delivery of the induction programme and training on the subject of VAWG.
  • To deliver training to groups, face to face and virtual training (webinar setup)
  • You will play a key part in the training of THW new staff members, students, volunteers, Board members and the development of existing staff, as well as providing a wide range of training for external organisations and professional groups

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • To work under the direction and supervision of the Haven Wolverhampton Lead Training Officer to grow our CYP EmpowHER training programme.
  • To deliver an agreed course of materials on an individual or group basis as outlined by the Lead Training Officer.
  • To work with the MENgage project lead to develop and deliver a programme for children and young people (CYP) in schools, addressing the issue of violence against women and girls (VAWG) and risky behaviours in relationships.
  • Ensure the EmpowHER programme for girls and young women focuses on a positive approach to supporting young women to understand and be confident to assert their rights
  • To develop and deliver a programme in schools to improve skills to address, examine and challenge beliefs around female gender-norms.
  • To develop a programme to deliver in schools exploring gender inequalities and the differences in power that exist in families, friendships, communities and society.
  • Implement approaches that promote and develop girls and young women’s emotional resilience to work towards attaining an emotionally healthy adulthood.
  • To develop and deliver a programme in schools looking at social, emotional and interpersonal skills for healthy relationships based on equality, respect and trust.
  • To develop a toolkit for school staff to use in order to deliver sessions (e.g. PSHE) on domestic abuse and the signs of risky relationship behaviours
  • To develop and deliver a complementary programme of training for school staff to improve their understanding of VAWG and its impact on wellbeing, and how best to support CYP subjected to abuse.
  • To keep abreast of updates, research and developments to ensure knowledge is kept up to date.
  • To contribute to funder reports, marketing, annual review, staff bulletin and impact report as required.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • To undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as maybe reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job.
  • To have personal responsibility for maintaining personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job and The Haven, by undertaking appropriate training and development activities. This includes encouraging and supporting staff and managers in their training and development.
  • To undertake any health and safety training and related activities such as First Aid, Fire Marshall, Duty Hold, Health & Safety representative etc. as required for the post and as required by The Haven Wolverhampton to ensure their Health & Safety Policy is implemented effectively.

  • To act in accordance with the organisations standing orders, financial regulations and financial procedures.
  • To supervise and support volunteers and placement as required

  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post subject to reasonable adjustment under the Equality Act.
  • To support hostel staff in ensuring the well-being of residents and their children working directly with our client group, including working within the hostels if required using the skills associated with the job.
  • The duties of the post may change and develop from time to time in the light of new legislation, The Haven’s Policies, organisational development and social trends. Such development will be monitored in conjunction with the Chief Executive and will be reflected as necessary in the aims and objectives of the post.

Able to work unsociable hours on occasions if required to undertake internal Haven activities or external continued professional development activities.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience of working with children and young people (CYP).
  • Experience of working in a school setting or other organisations ie, training providers, colleges, youth and community projects and youth offending services.
  • Experience of managing and delivering training sessions on a one to one basis or in groups.
  • Experience in design, research, development and delivery of training.
  • Experience of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with vulnerable ‘hard to reach’ children and young people.
  • Experience of working within the voluntary/charitable sector.
  • Experience of working in a VAWG (violence against women and girls) context
  • Experience of using basic design software for marketing materials

Knowledge & Understanding:

Essential:

  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of gender equality, patriarchal masculinities and transformative masculinities, and gender-based power imbalances
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of violence against women and girls (VAWG)
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of methods of transferring knowledge and learning styles
  • Demonstrate knowledge of learning outcomes and session planning
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and recognition of the importance of equity
  • Demonstrate an understanding of why evaluations and learner feedback is important.
  • Demonstrable understanding of GDPR

Desirable:

  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of Health & Safety issues related to this post.
  • Knowledge of the voluntary/charitable sector.

Skills & Abilities:

Essential:

  • Ability to devise, plan and implement new programmes and initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to share expertise with other

  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to create training materials in a variety of formats including MS Word and PowerPoint.

Qualifications & Training:

Essential:

  • Relevant qualification in working with CYP

Desirable:

  • JNC recognised qualification.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development in domestic violence and related subjects.

Other special requirements:

Essential:

  • Able to work unsociable hours on occasions if required to undertake internal Haven activities or external continued professional development activities
  • To comply with legislation and The Haven’s policies including Confidentiality, Information Sharing, Data Protection, GDPR, Computer Security, Safeguarding CYP’s and Adults at Risk, and Human Rights.

  • Be committed to the aims and objectives of The Haven Wolverhampton in supporting women and any dependent children who are homeless through reasons such as domestic violence.
  • The role requires travel across Wolverhampton therefore full, clean driver’s license and access to your own vehicle with business insurance is essential.
