The Haven Wolverhampton
Set up in 1973, The Haven Wolverhampton is a charitable organisation which provides both practical and emotional support services to women and children who are affected by domestic violence and homelessness. The Haven Wolverhampton is one of the largest independent charities in the UK and one of the largest refuge providers in the country.
The Haven Wolverhampton’s vision is for all women and children to live in a society free from oppression, homelessness, violence and abuse, and to promote and uphold human rights.
The Haven Wolverhampton supports women and dependent children who are vulnerable to domestic violence, homelessness and abuse.
Our main goal is to support women and children affected by domestic violence and homelessness. The Haven Wolverhampton also works to aid the prevention of domestic and other forms of violence against women through empowering women, lobbying and engaging in consultation. The Haven Wolverhampton has 6 strategic aims which are used to measure and achieve our goals:
- Place the interest of women and children at the heart of everything we do and involve them in all aspects of work at The Haven Wolverhampton
- Provide accommodation and community based services to women and children who have suffered violence and/or homelessness
- Invest in governance, staff and volunteers to achieve excellence and promote diversity
- Raise awareness of the needs of women and children who have suffered violence and/or homelessness
- Develop relationships to influence local, national and international policy and strategy development
- To achieve long term economic sustainability
The Haven Wolverhampton is keen to provide every woman and child the opportunity to have their thoughts and opinions heard and listened to. Through consultation and regular meetings clients are able to provide feedback on their experiences of life at The Haven Wolverhampton in order that we can continually work to improve our services and provide the best standard of care possible.
Our unique Women’s Resource Centre facility also provides opportunity for clients to learn and develop new skills. The Women’s Resource Centre is a dedicated building where both training and therapeutic activates can be accessed by both current and former clients. Through this centre we hope to be able to help clients to gain new skills, increase knowledge and understanding and boost self-esteem and self-confidence.
With over 35 years of knowledge and experience and a dedicated team of staff and volunteers The Haven Wolverhampton provides a dedicated and tailored package of support to every women and child who comes to us. We aim to provide high quality support to women and children in order to enable them to make their own informed decisions about their lives.
The Haven Wolverhampton is governed by a board of trustees who give their time on a voluntary basis to steer the organisation. It has a strong staff team who are led by senior management. All Haven staff have received domestic violence awareness induction training and have experience of working with women and children who have experienced domestic violence. We are sensitive to the needs of those accessing our services and understand that every woman and children experiencing domestic violence has different needs.
