Richard’s Story

‘12’ is the magic number for local man Richard Boswell who has chosen to take on the ambitious challenge of completing 12 half marathons in 12 months in order to raise money for The Haven.

Richard, 28, who works as a Treatment Practitioner for a Drug Treatment Service in the West Midlands has decided to take on the marathon challenge after things took a turn for the worst at the end of last year when he contracted a life threatening infection after visiting hospital for a routine procedure.

Richard recalls “Late last year I caught an infection which put me in critical care for a number of days and I nearly lost my life. It has made me look at my life in detail and what I do in it.”

He adds “I have never really raised money for charity so I thought I would use my past time to push myself further and do 12 half marathons in 12 months in the year of 2012. After I left hospital, I researched charities in Wolverhampton. I was impressed with The Haven and what they do in the community supporting women and children that have suffered from domestic violence.  I am looking to raise as much sponsorship as I can to support this worthy cause.” Richard is now back to full health and ready and raring to start his first 13 mile challenge. Grace Lee, Public Relations Officer at The Haven said “Richard is a true inspiration. We would like to encourage as many people and businesses in Wolverhampton to get behind him and support  his marathon challenge. Richard hopes to raise £1200 across the 12 month period, a fantastic amount which will help The Haven to continue to deliver vital life- saving services to women and children in the City.”
