Men step out in style for charity
On Sunday 17th October 2010 The Haven Wolverhampton hosted its first ever ‘Walk a Mile in Women’s Shoes’ event to raise awareness of Domestic Violence.
Dozens of men gathered in West Park to don a pair of high heels and take part in the one mile sponsored walk. Participants were given a variety of shoes to choose from including sandals, stilettos, platforms and kitten heels, all of which were donated from various shoe stores and websites across the West Midlands.
Wolf Radio’s Dicky Dodd hosted the event and walkers got into the spirit of things by taking part in an aerobics warm up...in heels. Many dressed up in fancy dress – from skirts to superheroes! Michael Jackson impersonator, ‘MJ2’ even donned a pair of black stiletto heels and moon-walked his way around the park!
One of the walkers said “I don’t know how women walk in these heels! Today has been a lot of fun though, I think it’s a great way to raise money and awareness. When’s the next event?” |

The afternoon went by without a hitch with no twisted ankles even though some of our enthusiastic walkers decided to sprint the whole way round in sky scraper heels!
We are so pleased that so many people came out to support the first ‘Walk a Mile in Women’s Shoes’ event. Approximately 50 men attended the event and they all looked great in their heels. This is an event we hope to be able to repeat next year.
A special thank you is extended to all who attended and supported the event. All sponsoriship money raised will go towards supporting women and children affected by Domestic Violence.
The Haven Wolverhampton would like to thank the following companies for supporting the event; New Life Foundation, Shoe Zone, Barratt’s, Priceless Shoes, Katie Long Shoes, Dark Kitten and West Bromwich Building Society. |
