As part of Sainsbury’s 140th birthday celebrations, staff and customers were invited to nominate local charities to become the official charity partner for each local store over a one year period. We are incredibly grateful that both staff and customers of Wolverhampton St George’s store nominated The Haven Wolverhampton as their charity of the year.

Customers were asked why their chosen charity made such a difference and answers included: “Helping homeless women and children who have suffered domestic violence rebuild their lives”, “Giving women and children a safe place to go when they are subject to violence and abuse” and “helping those in need at a difficult and scary time”. This now means that The Haven and Sainsbury’s Wolverhampton will be working closely together to organise fundraising, volunteering and publicity events until May 2010.

Staff and customers of Sainsburys St George's Wolverhampton have agreed to help raise funds for the women and children of The Haven Wolverhampton throughout the coming year. Sainsburys staff will take part in various fundraising activies starting with a launch event on 20th August 2009.

To celebrate The Haven Wolverhampton being named Sainsburys Wolverhampton Charity of the Year we are holding a launch event on Thursday 20th August at 12pm. A balloon race will take place at 12.45pm with the opportunity for customers and supporters to sponsor a balloon - the person that sponsors the balloon that travels the furthest will receive a prize! Sponsorship tickets will go on sale from Monday 10th August and are available ONLY from The Haven Wolverhampton office in Fold Street, or from Sainsburys Wolverhampton store, St George's. Please note these tickets are not available anywhere else.
