Haven Looks to the Future
The Haven will be providing new opportunities for young people aged 18 to 24 to learn essential work skills.
The Haven will host 8 new opportunities for young people across the organisations various services including refuge, helpline, community support and resettlement, admin, ICT, HR and fundraising.
The opportunities form part of the Future Jobs Fund, a £1 Billion Government investment which aims to create 170,000 jobs across the UK for young people who have been unemployed for between 39 and 50 weeks. Organisations were invited to apply for funding which will award up to £6,500 per job and deliver real benefits to the community.
Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for the Department of Work and Pensions said “We're determined to do everything we can to help people who are being hit by the world recession. We believe it is right to help people through difficult times so that local communities and our national economy can come through this sooner and stronger.”
Successful in its application to the Future Jobs Fund Groundwork West Midlands, will be working closely in partnership with The Haven Wolverhampton to recruit successful applicants to these exciting opportunities by March 2010. The opportunities will last for a period of 6 months with the aim to teach young people important work skills. Providing young people with these opportunities will allow them to gain vital experience as well as support The Haven in areas where extra support is needed.
Popinder Kaur, Head of Economic Development for The Haven Wolverhampton said “In the current economic climate charities are struggling with funding cuts and increased competition for grants. Through the Future Jobs Fund we hope to work together to encourage young people to learn new skills as well as raise important awareness and understanding of charities and the needs of vulnerable people.”

We firmly believe we can make a positive difference to the whole community and are delighted to be working in partnership with The Haven”.
All the successful young people will receive professional training and take part in Domestic Violence Awareness induction sessions.
