Welcome from CEO

Welcome to The Haven Wolverhampton Winter Newsletter 2008.
Over the previous months, The Haven Wolverhampton has been actively involved in a number of strategic meetings in order to keep Domestic Violence and Homelessness high on the agenda. These include British Crime Survey – Extension to cover Under 16’s; Home Affairs Enquiry into the Effectiveness of Government Action following Crime and Victims Act 2004; National Survey of The Third Sector Organisations; National Benchmarking; Supporting People Consultation; Tendering & Competitive Procurement of Supporting People Services and Voluntary Sector; Child & Women’s Abuse Studies Unit – Violence Against Women Strategic Consultation; the Compact continues the monitoring of Gender Duty developments and Contact Point. Recently, one of our members of Staff took part in the First World Conference of Women’s Shelters and successfully delivered a Presentation. Michaila has brought back a wealth of information from innovative services which we are evaluating for implementation within our resources.
The work with our Russian and Uzbekistan Partners continues to progress and our thoughts are with those courageous women as they struggle to affect change in Policy and Service improvement. For future reference, The Haven Wolverhampton is proposing to host an International Conference on 9 March 2009; details of which can be obtained from our website www.havenrefuge.org.uk or by calling 01902 572122.
Please accept my grateful thanks to you all for the support that you give The Haven Wolverhampton now and throughout the year. Our special thanks also to President Trish, Soroptimist Wolverhampton and to all the local Churches again for their support at this time with donated toys and continued support throughout the year.
Innovation and visionary thinking will be required by us all as the impact of economic climate brings tension and pressure to families in the City and the need for our services increase as a result.
On behalf of The Haven Wolverhampton Board Members, Staff and Volunteers, we wish you a peaceful Christmas and New Year.

RBS Supports Refuge Makeover

RBS Volunteers

RBS Volunteers
On 25th October 2008 staff from Wolverhampton Royal Bank Of Scotland (RBS) spent the day with women and staff at The Haven Wolverhampton painting and decorating one of our oldest refuges. Last Year RBS contributed to the re-landscaping of one our children’s gardens and were keen to offer their help and support again this year.
Staff from RBS said “we as a Bank feel that it is equally important to invest time as well as money in organisations such as The Haven Wolverhampton, and in doing so, we hope to be able to have helped people in the local community who are currently at a very difficult point in their lives”.
The day was a great success and RBS staff managed to transform one of our very tired looking refuges.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone at RBS who came along to lend a hand for the day. We are very grateful to those who took the time out of work to help our organisation and in turn, help make a real difference to the lives of our women and children.
Many thanks once again and we look forward to seeing you covered in paint again next year!
