At The Haven Wolverhampton we continue, every single day of the year, to be there for those children, vulnerable teenagers and women who so desperately need our support. Between 2006-7, there were 1,806 referrals for accommodation to The Haven Wolverhampton. 427 women and children benefited from our accommodation services; and our support services – Floating Support and Advocacy (which operate both within our refuges and out in the community) - supported 432 women, enabling them to embark on the path to life change and giving them the opportunities to vastly improve their life chances. Women and children living at The Haven will be spending Christmas 2007 not in the warm environs of the family home, amongst their family and friends, but in a hostel. Although they will be safe, apprehension about their future (and the future of their children, who have already been so through much) makes it hard to really celebrate. The children, concerned for their mothers and disorientated by unfamiliar surroundings in a new life devoid of their old toys, home, pets and friends, may state that they don’t care about toys or Christmas this year…but we care, and with your help, we will be working hard to ensure that they do have the best Christmas possible! Recently we were delighted to receive donations of Harvest Festival provisions from many organisations within our community. To all those groups, churches, schools, families and children who willingly gave their Harvest donations to The Haven Wolverhampton, may I extend a huge thank you on behalf of our women and children, who truly reaped the benefits of your kindness. Please help us to provide the care, support, protection and warmth for those less fortunate women and children accessing our services during the festive period. If you can help in any way, do please contact Ros Ward on 01902 572 146 (Tues/Weds/Thurs only) or email: publicity@havenrefuge.org.uk Ros Ward
