Floating Support

The Haven Wolverhampton Floating Support Service is an outreach service which offers support to Women and their children to re-establish themselves in the community after the experience of domestic violence.

Those who wish to access the Floating Support service do not have to be resident within The Haven’s emergency accommodation refuges. Each service user is allocated a support worker who will encourage and assist the individual to make positive choices for themselves and strive towards achievable goals.

The Floating Support service offers: assistance in setting up a home and maintaining a tenancy, emotional support, advice on benefits, help with contacting services within the community and much more.

If you require help please contact the Floating Support team on 01902 572140.

Can she fix it? Yes she can!

The Haven Wolverhampton are exploring the possibility of setting up workshops for women to gain skills in maintenance and DIY.
According to statistics only two out of five women in the UK undertake any practical tasks.

Between April 2007 and March 2008 The Haven supported 192 women back into the community who are now re-housed and living independently. These women are therefore responsible for DIY and maintenance in their homes.

The Haven promotes education and has a culture that supports women in becoming confident, competent, able and good stewards of their financial assets.

We want women to feel secure in living independently and for women to possess the knowledge of self sufficiency in relation to wiring a plug, decorating or changing a fuse.

If you can or would like to support our workshops in any way, either through donations of tools or your time, please contact us on 01902 572140 or email
info@havenrefuge.org.uk.

Training

So far this year the training department has delivered training to International agencies from Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan. We received some excellent feedback from both organisations and we look forward to their return.

The training department has secured a small grant facilitated through the local neighbourhood employment and skills board (NESB) to deliver in-house training to residents.

The aim of this project is to be able to provide access to training for women from The Haven Wolverhampton in a setting that is safe. We hope that this will then enable women to pursue employment and/or education opportunities.

Alison Worton-Jones, External Training Coordinator, has undergone training to enable her to deliver The Freedom Program for survivors of Domestic Violence.

This is now available as part of the bespoke training that can be commissioned by external agencies.
