Conference in Samarkand, May 2008

In May 2008 Kath Rees (CEO of The Haven Wolverhamotn) delivered a presentation at the International Conference “Socio Economic Initiatives of Women” in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.  The conference was organized by Women’s Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan,  Oblast Hokimiat (Council) of Samarkand and The Socio-Economic Development Centre “SABR”. The conference was chaired by Mrs. Svetlana Inamova, senator of Uzbekistan, deputy Prime Minister and the Chairwoman of the Women’s Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan. More than 150 people attended the conference including representatives from Olyi Majlis (Parliament), the Central Bank, the Business Women Association of Uzbekistan, the National Association of Credit Unions and Microfinance Organization, staff from Women NGOs and many socially active women of Uzbekistan. The conference focused on the development of opportunities available for women in Uzbekistan. Kath Rees underlined the need of addressing domestic violence and the need to promote women’s needs as a must in the society. The speech was very warmly received by the audience which also included representatives from the UK Embassy in the Uzbekistan.

Kath Rees’s presentation
