The
Haven Wolverhampton has carried out a number of projects with
organisations abroad which are engaged in fighting domestic
violence and supporting women and children affected by this
crime. These activities are funded entirely by The Big Lottery, Oxfam Novib and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.
The
Haven Wolverhampton has an International Partnership Strategy,
aiming to address domestic violence as a social problem by
raising awareness locally, regionally and internationally.
It aims to improve the understanding of organisations and
individuals of the experiences and needs of women and children
who have suffered domestic violence and/or homelessness through
a variety of training methods and consultancy services. This
involves developing effective partnerships with international
(as well as national) women's organisations. Our organisation,
established in 1973, has more than 30 years of experience
in providing temporary accommodation and support services
for women and children experiencing domestic violence. The
Haven works closely with different agencies (for example,
legal agencies - the Police, Crown Prosecution Service, Courts
and Probation) to develop feedback on good and bad practice
and work towards positive change within systems.
The
Haven aims to share its experience and practices to support
national and international women's organisations in their
battle against domestic violence.
