Supporting People
What is Supporting People?
Supporting People funds organisations which provide support to a range of people who require assistance to live independently in the home. The Supporting People programme offers people the opportunity to improve their quality of life by providing a stable environment in which they can achieve greater independence.

Supporting People delivers high quality housing-related services which complement existing care services.

Supporting People is a working partnership of local government, service users and support agencies.

What are housing related support services?
These are services which develop and maintain an individual's ability to live independently, e.g. helping to develop domestic or life skills, or helping with finance or benefit claims.

How does Supporting People address Domestic Violence?
Supporting People recognises that women experiencing domestic violence - besides the need for safe accommodation - have a range of support needs, including health care, emotional support, access to legal and criminal justice advice, welfare needs, and access to child protection services.
Women from ethnic minorities may face difficulties accessing support, and may require special services such as interpreting services. Other women who may face additional difficulties include women with mental health problems, disabled women, women who misuse drugs or alcohol, lesbian women, and women who work in sex industry.
Because the range of support needs of households experiencing domestic violence is diverse, domestic violence housing related services need to be integrated with other relevant locally delivered services including community safety, health, homelessness, and child protection.
