Counselling With over 35 years of experience of working with women and children The Haven Wolverhampton offers practical and emotional Counselling support to enable service users to make informed decisions about their lives. The “Beyond Surviving” project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and run by trained staff at The Haven Wolverhampton. The project provides specialist and accessible Counselling and Psychotherapy to support women and children affected by Domestic Violence. The project provides comprehensive Counselling support and also offers the following specialist Counsellors: An Asian Speaking Counsellor who will address cultural and language barriers which have traditionally prevented Asian women from accessing the support they need. A Children’s Counsellor who will offer child centred programmes, providing specialist support for children aged 5 to 16. A Male Counsellor who will provide a positive male role model for older boys affected by violence in the home. A Specialist Counsellor who will meet the specific needs of women and children who have physical and/or learning difficulties.
Counselling also ensures that children learn to understand the importance of their experiences of Domestic Violence. Counselling can support children to understand that violence is not acceptable and should be stopped. Counselling also teaches the importance of positive role models and the need to manage and solve problems without resorting to violence. The Counselling service is free and the only requirement is that clients reside within the Wolverhampton Borough. The service operates Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm and Saturday 9am until 1:30 pm approximately but flexibility is offered should you need it. The Counselling service abides by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and The Haven Wolverhampton’s Code of Ethics. All Counsellors are experienced, well qualified and clinically supervised. To contact the Counselling Service please call 01902 572151 or write to cco@havenrefuge.org.uk
