External Training Department

This year The Haven has developed an External Training Department in order to further develop the excellent packages of existing training delivered by Alison Worton Jones and Jennifer Moore plus a variety of other specialist internal colleagues who are very experienced in this field. Andrea Cifuentues-Poseck has been adding capacity and additional expertise to this team, since she moved over to this area in January 2003.

Staff have worked very hard to consolidate existing work into accredited courses validated by the Open College Network, which enables us to deliver externally certificated courses to volunteers staff and community groups, from any sector.

We share a vision that whilst the team is aiming to establish its' work on a business footing, we can, with our fundraising and Economic Development Officer's support, enable small community groups to continue to access quality training from The Haven at a subsidised cost, especially where they cannot afford to pay for staff development, yet need a knowledge around issues such as Domestic Abuse.

There have been many changes and new achievements this year, for example, in partnership with colleagues and various teams within The Haven we have delivered a greater range of in-house training sessions to include work specific to our Sessional Workers. We have also delivered a wider range of training to external agencies to include subjects such as good practice in Communication Skills when working with vulnerable women and children.

The range and types of organisations that we deliver training to has also expanded ranging from the hundreds of organisations we have been in contact with for many years to new contacts such as staff at the Policy Research Institute of the University of Wolverhampton, Prosecutors within the Criminal Justice System, The Ambulance Service, the Crown Prosecution Service and the West Midlands Probation Service at a Regional level. The External Training Officer continues to give full co-ordinative and competency document support to all Social Work Students who are on placement at The Haven.
