The Effects of Domestic Violence
Many women may not initially recognise that they are experiencing Domestic Violence or the extent to which Domestic Violence can affect their lives.
Domestic Violence can result in some or all of the following behaviours:
  • Depression
  • Low self esteem
  • Low self worth
  • Extreme stress and anxiety
  • Lack of confidence
  • Panic attacks
  • Obsessive compulsive behaviours
  • Insomnia
  • Body Hatred
  • Eating Disorders
  • Social Isolation
  • Anger

Domestic Violence has also been found to affect children in a number of different ways:

· Emotional Problems—crying, anxiety, sadness, confusion, anger, depression, nightmares, fears &
phobias, sleeping disorders, fear of adults

· Behavioural Problems—aggression, becoming  troublesome at home or school, withdrawing themselves, regressive behaviour, lower academic achievements

· Physical Problems—headaches, stomach aches,  nausea, eating disorders, bedwetting, insomnia
