Commission on the status of women, United Nations, New York, February 2012
Representatives from The Haven Wolverhampton were honoured to attended the 56th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which took place from 27th February to 9th March in New York.
The event was attended by over 3000 delegates from across the globe all of whom gathered to hear presentations which focused on a number of themes including:
- The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges
- Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women
- Engaging young women and men, girls and boys, to advance gender equality

During the two week event The Haven Wolverhampton joined with WAVE (Women Against Violence in Europe, Austria) and the Women's Information Consultative Centre, Ukraine to deliver three presentations. Presentations can be downloaded by clicking on the links below:

- Ensuring the endurance of services for women survivors of violence in Europe despite the crisis
- Wave Network / Supporting Women’s Support services in rural areas in the Ukraine
Presentations were delivered on 27th February 2012 and well attended with over 50 participants who actively participated in questions and discussions. During the presentation The Haven unveiled its ‘Surviving Financial Abuse’ booklet which was held in high regard by all attendees.
| Delegates from The Haven also attended a number of the UN Panels, NGO parallel events, The UK NGO briefings, UK Mission and EU Mission briefings. Presentation were delivered by honorable speakers including Lynne Featherstone (UK Minister for Equalities), Mark Lyall Gant (UK Ambassador to UN), Michelle Bachelet (UN Women’s Fund For Gender Equality, Executive Director), Lois A. The UK NGO delegation was led by the National Association of Women’s Organisations. The event assisted in the sharing of knowledge, best practices and innovations and build partnerships to strengthen women’s voices against violence.

In February 2011 Kath Rees (CEO) and Elvira Wilson (Head of Business Support) attended the 55th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York.
The UK Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) delegation was organised by the NAWO (National Association of Women’s Organisations). The 2011 session focused on the issue of access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology and also the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work.
On 25th February 2011 Haven staff joined WAVE (Women Against Violence in Europe – http://www.wave-network.org/start.asp?ID=23487&b=151) in delivering a parallel event entitled “Violence against Women and Children and Education” to talk about The Haven's new ground breaking project on Financial Abuse. The Haven also participated in the “Working with the Criminal Justice System to Address Domestic Violence” parallel event with participation from international partners in Russia and Nigeria. The Haven believes that the visit has helped to share good practices and innovation and influence international mechanisms to address Domestic Violence at global level.
